Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday laid claim to the dead body of a slain political worker named Ghaffar Gujjar. While the PTI was the one making more hue and cry, the ruling PML-N also claims that Gujjar was actually a PML-N worker. PTI supporters, however, blocked the road at first the Lahore Press Club and later at Garhi Shahu Chowk with the dead body on the road.
PML-N, on the other hand, says that Ghaffar Gujjar had also applied for a Union Council ticket and was killed in a gambling issue with his own friends who also happened to be PML-N supporters.

The election campaign in the constituency so far seemed dull and dry but it has finally shown some sign of a contest, unfortunately, with this dead body. The constituency has traditionally been a stronghold of the PML-N. Although PTI chairman Imran Khan contests election from this constituency, he has never been able to win here ever. This time, however, the PTI chairman believed that he was defeated through rigging and the court verdict finally caused a re-election in this constituency. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq still seems to be the stronger candidate yet Aleem Khan, with his financial prowess, has been able to run an effective campaign and as I had said in an earlier post, he is giving Ayaz Sadiq some tough time, which the other candidate that PTI was considering, Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, would never have been able to.
Though the matter will take time to get resolved, the fact remains that PTI will do whatever it can to trouble Ayaz Sadiq. The former speaker is in no position to get involved into controversies, since he has already been contesting this election with a baggage of being alleged of having rigged the previous election. Moreover, the dead body might give PTI a new and added life in this campaign and might ignite some sort of fire among the workers.
Above is how the political parties see such situations. A dead body is always a bonus for the party and a baggage for the opponent. This might have seemed dark while reading yet this is how Aleem Khan and Ayaz Sadiq would have been reading the situation right now. Imagine if the slain worker was one of their own family-members….
